Subject: [gislist] GIS software/hardware donations for 3rd World
Date:  01/24/2005 02:15:02 PM
From:  Kate Lance

Rick,
Could you tell me which country (and city) you'll be
working in? I might be able to put you in touch with
GIS specialists from that country... and you can ask
them directly what they suggest (in terms of software
packages, open source, etc.). Also, quite a few
African countries have a network of GIS
producers/users, and ideally the local college lab
that you set up will be hooked into its country's
geospatial network.

If you're not already on the mailing list of the
Spatial Data Infrastructure - Africa newsletter
(SDI-Africa), I encourage you to check it out
http://www.gsdi.org/newsletters.asp
A number of software options and opportunities have
been highlighted in the newsletter over the years
(newsletter published since Map 2002)

Regards,
Kate, SDI-Africa Editor
