Do you know if I can download a trial version, or will I need to contact
them?
The application I need to create needs to work with Visual C++ and needs
to display rapidly moving features on a map. Do you think Cadcorp's SDK
is up to that?

Before moving from my past job - we used Cadcorp's SDK. You cannot get
a better SDK out of a GIS. It is 100% of the full product (which is
very powerful) and you can make it as easy or as complex as you wish.
And best part about it - their runtimes and licenses are relatively
cheap. You mention format support - they support all the big GIS
formats (over 150) right out of the box.
