Subject: RE: [gislist] ArcIMS JAVA viewer
Date:  03/02/2005 01:30:02 PM
From:  Todd Helt

Lawrence,

We have quite a bit of experience with Java viewers for ArcIMS, dating all
the way back to ArcIMS 3.0 and continuing up thru the current ArcIMS 9
product cycle. However, we do NOT use the ESRI Java viewers as in our
opinion they don't really add much functionality to the capabilities of the
Default HTML viewer, particularly considering the time most administrators
have to put in to get (and keep) them operational. Please take a look at
our product, Maplicity for ArcIMS. It is a fairly lightweight (350kb) Java
applet viewer that includes two high performance interfaces with a number of
desktop GIS-like functionality built-in including graphics/redlining/text
annotation tools, dynamic legend editing, interactive image & map comparison
tools, custom query tools, custom data download tools, and more. We just
released Maplicity 4.9 for ArcIMS 9, which is backwards compatible with the
ArcIMS version that you are running (ArcIMS 4.0.1), and also offer special
pricing for small local governments.

The most popular, publicly accessible example of Maplicity for ArcIMS can be
found at the David Rumsey Collection (historical Internet GIS). Most people
think that the "David Rumsey Collection GIS Browser" was a very expensive
custom ArcIMS application. In fact, most of the advanced Web GIS and
geospatial visualization capabilities in this application are found in our
standard Maplicity products:

Feel free to contact me directly if we can be of any assistance or if you
would like to discuss your requirements in more detail.

Best regards,

Todd

Subject: [gislist] ArcIMS JAVA viewer

Hello,

Does anyone out there have experience with the ArcIMS Java viewers? I find
that consistently, when I set up a Java website, it will initially work, but
shortly users start getting a message stating that it can't find the data.
Are there tricks to making a successful JAVA site? I am still using ArcIMS
4.0.1. What are others' opinions, experiences with the IMS JAVA Viewer?

Thanks,

Lawrence Hartpence
