Its very simple.
Click on the Help menu button, then ArcGIS desktop Help (or press the F1 key, should you be more familiar with ArcMap). Select the Search option and type "calculate area". Press the List Topics button to identify the specific help page. While there will be many topics listed, I will not insult anyone's intellegence by pointing out that the "Making Field Calculations" title is probably the most appropriate.
(Regarding recent complaints about using this list for ESRI support, I consider this to be a general question as the same answer should apply to your software package of choice.)
