Apologies if this is the wrong platform to post a job ad. A colleague of

A position is available at the Coastal and Marine Resources Centre (CMRC),
UCC, (Ireland) for an experienced computer scientist/engineer to join a
multidisciplinary team who are working to develop a strategic framework for
the sustainable management of marine aggregate resources in the Southern
Irish Sea. The position is financed for 18months under the INTERREG IIIa
programme, with the option to extend.

The overall objective of the CMRC is to investigate the interactions between
biological and physical coastal and ocean resources and human populations,
with a view to establishing the level of sustainable utilisation, and
thereafter, stimulating the adoption of scientifically-based integrated
coastal and ocean management plans. (http://cmrc.ucc.ie/)

We are seeking a highly motivated computer scientist/engineer who will play
a key role in the project by supporting the design and development of a
web-enabled geo-environmental database and associated GIS based decision
support tools. The incumbent would also have minor additional role in server
administration. The ideal candidate will have the following
skills/qualifications:

administration and Bash shell scripting.

Beneficial: Web development (servlets and JSP, ASP, PHP, Python), JDBC,
JavaScript, XML, GML, Experience of marine data formats (MBES, Geophysics),
and operating within an HPC environment would be an advantage.

UCC is an equal opportunity employer.

Applicants should send their curriculum vitae (closing date 20th April 05),
including a statement of research interests and experience as well as names
and addresses of two referees either electronically (gerry.Sutton@ucc.ie) or
by regular mail to:
