What are the latest technologies/systems for roads networks and Point

Interest (POI) data collection? How is the data in the navigation maps
(NAVTEQ, Tele Atlas) collected? Is there an automated system,
eventually
mounted on a vehicle (minivan?) to collect such data? Any input would
