Geodatabases created in ArcGIS 9.0 are not compatible with ArcGIS 8.3. This was due to the addition of several features with the ArcGIS 9 geodatabase. Now ArcGIS 9.1 will have the ability to back save to the older version. ArcGIS 9.1 should be released very soon Tripp Corbin, GISP Keck & Wood, Inc. ESRI Authorized Instructor

Hi all, The question I have is probably an example of another ESRI incompatibilities. I have some geodatabases which were created in ArcGIS 9. I tried to open them in ArcGIS 8.3 but I couldn't. The message I have is: Failed to connect to database. This release of GeoDatabase is invalid or out of date. [Unknown GeoDatabase release]. This could be expected to some degree but isn't it funny. I think the ArcGIS 9 is the same software as ArcGIS 8.3 and OGC compatible etc. (or at least it should be) Probably I will have to search for some converter or something which should work with ArcGIS 8.3. Any help will be highly appreciated. (Of course I could be wrong and there is some easy way to convert ArcGIS 9 to 8.3 geodatabase, but I doubt). V.
