There are few intergrated GPS PDA already available in the market. You can do a quick search for that in web. (ACER N35, Garmin iQue 3600)
Accuracy, depends on which part of the world you are using it. If its in equitorial region then you can expect an accuracy rage of 2-5 m, if you have a good GPS chipset. Toward North and South, it gets worse.
Simple suggestion, get a decent PocktPC with bluetooth and a bluetooth GPS. Works well all the time. If you need to update your SHP files, then get ArcPAD software from ESRI.
