Like many in Germany here I am looking for a new job. There simply is no work in this country at the moment for a 38 year old with 14 years of GIS experience. I was thinking this morning about a new idea for resumes and would like to share it with others. Employers see hundreds of them all the time and almost all of them overstate the abilities and experience of the applicant. This leads to frustration on the part of the employer in that s/he hires the person then finds out later they don't have the experience needed. I believe that today directness and honesty is respected more highly over glossy self promotion. Resumes tend to look the same frm what I have seen. Might it not be a good idea to be very open about one's faults as well as one's experience upon a resume, so that an employer knew what s/he was hiring more clearly. But in order to maintain the "marketability" of the person, s/he must provide a negative aspect of themselves but balance it with a positive aspect. For example: I am older compared to younger GIS practitioners.....BUT I have a lot more insight and experience. I am unable to travel out of Germany as I am a family man....BUT I can work from home now thanks to the Internet. I am "jack of all trades" and master of none, having never specialised in any one GIS...BUT my GIS education was such that I was taught to use any GIS not just one software package, thus giving me an advantage during tasks like legacy GIS data migrations. So you can see what I mean. Any thoughts on this? Jeremy
