No, I think Eric's right. I don't mind *short* commercial announcements
from people who regularly participate in the discussion, but if the list
doesn't take a stand on posts that are bald-faced advertising from people
who never contribute to the discussion, it will soon be flooded with spam.
Even GIS-related advertising can degrade into spam if there's too much of
it. Remember what Cantor and Siegel did to Usenet?

And that @#%$! autoresponder that's attached itself to this list like a
remora from the headhunter looking for GIS people in South America is a
bit rude too. Every time you post to gislist, you get spammed by him.

Hopefully the person who manages this list will unsubscribe that one.
