Subject: Re: [gislist] ARC GIS

Good Morning Rod,

You definitely have a challenge in front of you.

Aside from the documentation you received from ESRI, I would peruse the
Virtual Campus for inexpensive, robust, but non-instructor led training.
The big advantage is that you can begin the visual learning process
immediately and much of it is FREE.

If you can opt for instructor led training in the not too distant future,
your least expensive route will be through the Authorized Training Program.
Your first choice should be the "Introduction to ArcGIS I" course.

During moments of high frustration, you might be able to locate a consultant
or ATP who can provide instantaneous remote control support via IM (Instant
Messaging), NetOp, WebEx, etc. - assuming your IT supports the service.

Last but not least, you might have noticed that the media package contains a
documentation CD. All sorts of documentation are included in PDF format.
It is very easy to perform a keyword search using Adobe Acrobat Reader that
often allows for a reasonably quick resolution of a particular task issue.

Good Luck,

Jim Readel, ATP, R.F.

Help. I am lost. Our small co. has just installed Arc GIS Arc Map

and Arc Catalog. I have been given the task of making it work. I could

certainly use some friendly advice. Like were to start. Or anything

else, How do other counties use this. I do know that I need a base map.

But I don't know where to get it. The County is reluctant to spend the

money on Allot of training so I am on my own here. Any information would

help. THANKS RRN
