Hi,
I have a student who has a geodatabase that contains protected areas from around the world. She needs to calculate the areas (ha) of each of the areas. What means would people suggest as the best approach to take? She could:
1) calculate the areas using lat/long, but apply a correction factor (complicated if the areas extend considerably north-south).
2) divide the world into blocks and project each block using the most suitable projection, and then calculate the areas. The question then becomes, what projection(s) would be best, in order to reduce the number of blocks she needs to split the world into.
3) any other choices?
Any guidance appreciated!
Thanks,
Brian
