The first place to start is to get a book (with cd) called "Getting to Know
ArcGIS Desktop" It is available from ESRI press, but you can find it for
less elsewhere. Then I would suggest enrolling in a couple of on-line
classes that ESRI offers such as an introductory class of some sort. Do
you know anything about GIS at all? This is an important consideration. I
took a GIS certificate course through our local community college which was
a great introduction to the basics and have worked in the field since 1997
