Hello Fellow GIS'ers
=20
Recently one of my coworkers asked me a question on which I could use s=
ome=20
help. Do you know of any people, organizations, or active projects add=
ressing=20
development of moderately priced airborne video systems to track moving=
=20
objects such as vehicles, persons, animals, etc.? Various law enforcem=
ent and=20
security groups are interested in this kind of technology to supplant h=
ot=20
pursuit on the ground. The systems that are available now are very cos=
tly. Price=20
is the reason for this inquiry. =20
=20
The airborne system of choice should be able to recognize and track mov=
ing=20
objects, recovering them when they become momentarily obscured by inter=
vening=20
objects. It should be able to compute GPS coordinates of the target ob=
jects,=20
and transmit this information to ground units. A major interest of my=20
associate is accurate recognition of features via smart software that c=
an keep a=20
lock on an object as it changes direction, position, reflectance, etc. =
=20
=20
Also, I have no idea what might be ongoing in Europe in this arena. =20
=20
If such systems exist or are under development we would like to know. =
If=20
there are any questions or issues that need clarification, please let m=
e know. =20
=20
Thanks for any help you can give me. Jule
