Questions specifically about ESRI software can be posed on the ESRI web
site in its "user forums:" the readers are more interested, many are highly
qualified, and you usually get rapid answers. Moreover, you can search
these forums (amounting to tens of thousands of postings) for previous
answers, such as those at
http://forums.esri.com/Thread.asp?c=3&f=38&t=71339&mc=13#187880 and
http://forums.esri.com/Thread.asp?c=93&f=982&t=115888&mc=9#434696 .

Incidentally, users of other software looking for interesting algorithms
could benefit from many of the discussions in these forums, too, but you
have to be willing to poke around through a really lousy search interface.

If you want to post ESRI software questions on an e-mail discussion list,
rather than on a Web page, then you are currently better off using the
independent (non-ESRI) lists for ArcView and ArcGIS questions. Learn more
about them at http://lists.directionsmag.com/discussion/ .

Let's keep GISList for general GIS questions, please.
