I have been trying for some time to get detailed elevation data on Petra in Jordan (every 1-10 meters). Do you know if that is available anywhere?

Greeting all,
I?m planning to buy a GeoXT GPS unit, does any one has a previous experience in such device. Also does it require special software (arcpad) to upload shapefiles and navigation, beside I?m living in Jordan (Middle East) what is the expected accuracy that I will get taking into consideration that I will not use differential GPS.
Your help is highly appreciated.
