Subject: [gislist] Tax Map plotting routine for ArcGIS 9.x
Date:  07/22/2005 11:00:02 AM
From:  Tripp Corbin

Ok here is my problem. I have a Client that currently has their tax maps
in an AutoCAD format with a single drawing per map. They want to convert
to ArcGIS. The data conversion is no big problem. We have done that more
times than I can count.

The problem is printing. They want to duplicate their existing tax maps
that are being printed from AutoCAD and resemble the old photo
enlargement tax maps. These maps have about a thirty percent overlap
area that contains only the aerial image and no line work or annotation.

Does anyone have or know of a simple booklet plotting routine that might
possibly duplicate this appearance in ArcGIS 9.x? The normal ESRI Map
Booklet plotting script will not do it with out some addition coding. As
always cost is an issue. Yes we could write the additional code but I do
think my client has the budget for it plus I don't see a need to
recreate the wheel if it already exists. I have or can create both the
Map Index which will be rectangular and an irregular polygon FC that
covers the area of the line work and anno to be printed on per map. Of
course the other option would be to attribute everything with a map
number and use that to query elements in but that would be much more
difficult to maintain.
