Did you check the spatial domain?

In ArcCatalog, click on the theme:
choose properties:
under Spatial Reference choose Show Details:
scroll down to the X/Y domain.

Compare those numbers from the input shape files and the destination
dataset. The input domain has to fall within the destination domain.

Good Luck,
dt

Subject: [gislist] I'm a beginner and I need help

Hello everyone,

Just to let you know, I'm a high school intern, so if sound a little
"inexperienced" on ArcCatalog, ya'll know why. Ok, so here's my
problem: I am trying to load some shapefiles into a dataset file I
create a few days back, but for some reason, the new shapefiles aren't
showing up in that dataset file. I checked out the spatial metadata on
my working dataset file and on the shapefile I'm having trouble with,
and the horizontal coordinate system shows that the geographic and
projected coordinate systems are the same. But for some reason, the
file that's not working has no bounding coordinate systems while my
dataset file does.

If I haven't confused you with my limited computer vocabulary, please
help me. Thanks.
