From:  Narmala Sathyanarayana

hi hughes,

selecting polygons based on a single polygon can be done using arcmap. for =
thia first select the single soil type attribute, then by using select by l=
ocation option in the selection menu, one can select the polygons of the lo=
calle falling within that particular soil type.

then open the attributes of the localle shape file and calculate the attrib=
utes of the selected records to that particular soil type.

repeat the same for every soil type for ur output.
