Look up INTERSECT and UNION in help to decide which one works better for what you are trying to do.

Setup: I have a series of polygon layers, simplest is one with soiltypes and another with locales. What I need to know is what soil type each locale sites on, and then post that identifier to the locale dbf -- so that I know that Locale A is on SoilTypeZ, and so that I can compute how many localities are within the confines of each soil type.
Is there a stock (or freely available aftermarket) routine for ArcView 9.1 that will do this?
Thanks. Dave Hughes
