Angus,
What you have is the LAT/LONG in text format. You'll need to convert it. Here is the Excel formula that will do this. Just add a column call it LATDECI and/or LONDECI and add this formula:
=LEFT([CELL W/LAT],2)+((RIGHT([CELL W/LAT],(LEN([CELL W/LAT])-FIND(" ",[CELL W/LAT],1))))/60)
Change the [CELL w/LAT] to the cell number of the LATITUDE. Do the same with LONGITUDE.
I have to convert these type of data all the time.

Subject[gislist] Arc GIS 9.1 (add xy data)
I have an excel spreadsheet 11 GPS Coordinates in the following format
30 15.515 91 58.920
I tried to change the format of the cells to numbers and save this as a dbase with no luck. Also tried to import into access and change to a data type of number but when I save the file access gives me the message 11 records deleted. Any ideas
Thanks
