I've done this in the past, but cannot seem to recall how. I have a single layer with numerous small shape files on it, none more than about 10 ha. When zooming out past about 1:12,000 they become impossible to see against the background layers. I seem to recall there is a way to switch the display from actual polygon boundaries to symbol (star, triangle, whatever) depending upon zoom scale. I could compute the geometric centers and add a point layer, then switch to the point layer for smaller-scale presentation, but I seem to recall a more parsimonious approach. Anyone have any ideas or help for a semi-beginner?
Thanks.
