We have evaluated the product, both the desktop and the IMS components and found it both robust and lacking at the same time. I suggest you subscribe to the Manifold-L listserve, which can be found at Manifold's main site. As a desktop GIS it is everything it claims to be, but as an internet map server, it may be fine for putting up relatively static, low-traffic sites, but light years away from any meaningful, business-grade location-based services application.
