As part of the MILES project, the cities of Munich and Vitoria-Gasteiz =

and the Sri Lankan Institute for the Local Governance promote an =

Internet seminar about the role of open software and geoinformatics for =

environmental management at the local level.

This virtual seminar's aim is to facilitate the international exchange =

of experiences on innovative environmental management information =

systems through a moderated WWW based discussion. The seminar will have =

a public part in which experts from all the world explain through =

several papers their experiences in this field.

MILES is an EU funded project that aims at improving the environmental =

condition in Sri Lanka municipalities. It promotes a technology transfer =

in the areas of urban environmental management information systems with =

a strong focus on capacity building and training.

BLOCK 1- Recent advances in open GIS software
Starting date: 1st week (7 Nov 2005)

BLOCK 2 - Practical experiences of adopting EMIS at the local level
Starting date: 2nd week (14 Nov 2005)

BLOCK 3 - Mechanisms to help cities to implement an EMIS
Starting date: 3rd week (21 Nov 2005)
