Subject: Re: [gislist] simple help
Date:  11/17/2005 03:30:02 PM
From:  Michael Pesses

Rod,

>From what I understand, you're now looking to symbolize the roads on a map. I would go into your roads layer's attribute table and add a new field. Call it "PLOW_SYM" or whatever. Then for each road, add an attribute that ties it to its category. For example, make the new field a text field and give "Main St" the attribute "Plow1Primary." Give the necessary attribute to distinguish which plow and road type ties to that road. When you've done this to all of your roads, you can symbolize by unique values under the "Symbology" tab in the "Layer Properties" window in ArcMap. You could also make two new fields, one for route and one for road type. This new field(s) will also help for future queries with the layer, e.g. "I need a map of just this particular route's primary roads."

I hope this helps.

Regards,

Mike
