Hello All,
This query is about how ESRI's GIS software stores spatial metadata about the datasets.
I have explored using the ArcCatalog and have noticed that when you click on the metadata tab, an XML file is generated on the fly with the same file name as the dataset but with a different extension ".xml". If there is existing metadata, its stored in this same file. The XML can display either an FGDC or an ISO output depending on what wizard you choose to run. This, I think is managed by the application of an XSL file.
I wanted to know if there is any other way ARC stores metadata for a dataset? Is it the same case for datasets stored as SDE features ?
Kind Regards,
Usman Iqbal
