Subject: [gislist] Digital Chart of the World Rivers Coverage
Date:  12/02/2005 09:40:01 PM
From:  Matthew Goslin

Is anyone aware of efforts to edit the Digital Chart of the World's (or
vmap0) drainage coverage to produce a clean river network for the
purpose of routing the hydrography?

I am working for the "State of the Salmon" project that is compiling
georeferenced data on salmon across the North Pacific Rim. As part of
this project, we will be using the DCW drainage coverage to provide a
uniform-scale hydrography across this entire region. We have discussed
the possibility of editing and routing the DCW for this entire region,
but this could be a huge endeavor. If editing and routing of DCW or
vmap0 rivers has already been done and is shareable for any parts of
this region (Russian Far East, Japan, Korea, Alaska, BC and Yukon in
Canada, Oregon/Washington/Idaha (Columbia River Basin), California), it
could facilitate and make more feasible our idea of creating a
uniform-scale routed hydrography for the N. Pacific Rim.
