While I can not explain why the tool works correctly in one an not the other, unless there is some overriding reason you have answered your own question. Use the tool in ArcMap. ArcMap where you are suppose to perform you analysis anyway. ArcCatalog is for data management.

Also based on our exprience that is not the only tool that differs from ArcMap to ArcCatalog either. We found several of the raster tools also work differently from one to the other.

Hello:

I am using ArcGIS 9: I have been unsuccessful using the Intersect Tool via
Selection by Location in ArcCatalog it works fine in ArcMap.

Can anyone suggest a solution.
