Subject: Re: [gislist] ArcSDE

David,
I to am fairly new to SDE. None of our projects or clients have reached
that level. I can tell you this you will need Oracle or SQL serve in
addition to ArcSDE. I believe ArcSDE will work with Oracle Standard. You
do not need to have ArcSDE and Oracle or SQL installed on the same
server though ESRI recommends you do.

I have heard through the grapevine that ESRI is working on a version of
SDE that will work with MySQL but it is not available now.

Subject: [gislist] ArcSDE

Hello All,

I have a very beginner ArcSDE question. In order to use multiuser,
versioned geodatabases (in particular Oracle 10g), you need to have
ArcSDE. At least, so says ESRI's website. My question is, in order to
create an Oracle geodatabase, do you also need to have Oracle installed
on the server with ArcSDE, or can you just use ArcSDE without Oracle or
Sql server, etc.? If you need Oracle, can you get away with just oracle
standard, or even lite, or do you need Oracle Enterprise installed? This
is all fairly new to me.

Thank you in advance,

David
