Hi Listers,
We have over 400 DOQQs (from 1997) in .sid format. These are aprox 5M each, with a total directory size of just over 2G. When we have attempted to load these into our Oracle Geodatabase through SDE, the images have been un-SIDed, exploding to their original size of 150M each - that would translate into aprox 60G for all of the imagery. We also expect to get a new set of DOQQs (2003) in the spring, so storage size in the Oracle Geodatabase could become an issue.
Questions: -Is it possible to get load rasters in .sid format into the Geodatabase without them being un-SIDed?
-Has anyone out there worked with unmanaged raster catalogues in SDE? That is, storing the raster catalogue in the Geodatabase, but the imagery outside of the Geodatabase (perhaps on a separate server). What permissions issues might one expect to run into in this sort of situation?
-What (other) solutions have you come up with to serve up large numbers of DOQQs, DRG24, or DRG100 rasters in IMS and for general use ArcMap compositions?
Thank you!
Travis
