Subject: [gislist] GIS > ArcMap > Labelling
Date:  01/28/2006 05:30:01 AM
From:  George

Hello GISers:

I have a simple spatial database of the world, with Country Name as one of the attribute Items. I joined a table of Emergency Telephone numbers (world) to this attribute table using the Country Name as a relate item. It worked just fine. The problem I am having is in using the information in the new (joined) table in labelling the countries. I have set up a Label expression as follows:

Function FindLabel ( [CNTRY_NAME], [World Emergency Numbers.Country], [World Emergency Numbers.Ambulance], [World Emergency Numbers.Fire], [World Emergency Numbers.Police] )
FindLabel = [CNTRY_NAME] & " " & [World Emergency Numbers.Country] & " - Ambulance: " & [World Emergency Numbers.Ambulance] & " Fire: " & [World Emergency Numbers.Fire] & " Police: " & [World Emergency Numbers.Police]
End Function

And this works fine, within the map display when labels are turned on for the layer, looking something like this:

Iran - Ambulance: 115 Fire: 125 Police: 129

However... I would like these labels to be stacked labels. Apparently I can use the VBScript special character vbNewLine to do this. I have tried, and must be doing something wrong, as I receive a Syntax error when I try to Verify what I have done. The trouble is that I do not know WHERE to insert this vbNewLine, nor HOW to insert it. Could someone out there please send some help by email? Please send to my email only, and when I have the problem solved from the responses, I will publish a summary for the List.

Thanks in Advance.

Cheers,
George.
