Subject: [gislist] problem with ArcView 3.2 on WinXP
Date:  02/27/2006 04:55:01 PM
From:  Rixanne Wehren

Hello listers,

I recently moved from Windows 2000 on a laptop to Win XP on a new
Dell 9150 desktop.

I also moved all my ArcView 3.2a files and the referenced data files.
I am now using the old files with the newly-installed ArcView 3.2a on
the Dell. I'm having some very strange glitches, and wonder if anyone
knows anything about them.

When I use the Identity tool on a layer, I get an error message that
"MSW call DeleteObject failed", then the item turns bright purple,
and all the rest of the text labels disappear. The only way to get
the text back is to use the Hand tool to move the display slightly,
then the words reappear.

The Error message can be dismissed, but leaves a dialog box with the
message "The parameter is incorrect". This cannot be dismissed, I
have to minimize it, where it stays for the rest of the session,
adding another line of "The parameter is incorrect." whenever I use
the Identity tool.

The most annoying part is having the text disappear.
Any ideas on that one?

2) I use a Wacom tablet, which has always been just fine with ArcView
3.2a. But now it can't seem to select an item with a direct click, I
have to draw a marquee around the item to select it. I have the newer
driver for Win XP, and have tried changing the tablet settings to
very sensitive, but no luck.

Any thoughts?

p.s. I do plan to migrate to ArcGIS, but have to finish this project first.

any thanks,

Rixanne
