Subject: Re: [gislist] Inventory of pedestrian crossing facilities
Date:  02/28/2006 05:10:01 PM
From:  Lemke, Paula

I was looking into the same type of application and was told about using
barcodes on signs, scanners for the barcodes as well as for images of
pavement markers and tying this into the database and eventually into the
GIS. The lengthy part of all this for me is the time it takes to research
and design a database for something I have no expertise in. Looking for
ready-made databases to build off of has not been real successful for me
either until a county engineer just starting in GIS introduced me to
CarteGraph.com. That would be a good place to start for information. There
must be other companies out there doing the same thing.

Subject: [gislist] Inventory of pedestrian crossing facilities

The question below especially addressed to those folks
working in transportation departments or
contractors/consultants/vendors providing geospatial
data and services to transportation industry.

I am wondering, what are the technologies being used
in collecting, analyzing, storing and retrieving
quantitative and qualitative data about traffic signs,
especially pedestrian crossing facilities (signs and
white stripes marked on the pavement)?

Thank you,
Chris
