Dear All,
We are working on a water sources database and we would like to build in an automatic procedure for validation of new data coming in. We would like to check if new data being entered is a duplicate water point or not. We would then like to come up with a 'score' - (0 = the water source is not a duplicate, with higher numbers having more chance of being a duplicate water source). Then we will investigate the points with a high score and go back to the source to verify it.
Some of the checks we would like to do are:
Check if the input district name matches the district in the database
Check If water points are within 1km, 500m, 300m and 100m of each other ( > than 1km = 1 score: within 100m = 4 score for example)
Check if certain attributes in the database match or are within a certain range:
If the pump number of different water sources are the same then chances are they might be a duplication - assign a score of 2)
If the water depths are the same or within a few metres of each other, chances are they are duplicates - assign a score of say 3)
At the end we will add the scores and only verify those with high scores (high probability of being a duplicate).
I can do these checks manually but of course it would take time as we have thousands of records. I have no programming skills but I could detail the specs quite easily and then provide that to a developer.
Ideally we would like the check to be done in ArcGIS with the press of a button, but we are open to other suggestions
Before we begin, I thought I'd send a message to find out if others have done something similar.
Looking forward to the responses.
Regards,
Craig
