Is the below groundwater material interesting to you? We have not pushed our GIS technology in that direction for the old reason that "nobody wants cover the bills" to do so. I find those studies interesting, and have a series of ideas on how to present that information on maps or satellite images.
Your latency question of yesterday - there was an ORBCOMM service reduction from last evening through approx 0900 this morning when traffic flow came back up to normal levels, by 10:00 all backed up traffic had been received and was posted to the web.
