You can also use it as a field modification in ArcMalp. Right click on the shape file you want centroids for, open the attribute table, add two fields (I use X_Ctr and Y_Ctr) as double precision, 16, 2 fields. Then right click at the top of the X_Ctr field, select "Calculate Values", check the "Advanced" box, and then go to help and scroll down to the VB script for computing X coordinate of a polygon center and copy and paste the prelogic into the advanced box. Finally, put the X_Ctr field = "Output". For the Y_Ctr field do the same thing but in the prelogic replace the X with Y.
If this description is too general for you, I have a set of instructions I give students that goes through the process step by step and click by click.
Luck to you.

I need to determine the geo graphic center of a polygon. I am currently running ArcGIS 9.1. I would welcome any thoughts on this topic. Thank you in advance.
