Dear colleagues,

On behalf of the AGILE council, I would like to invite you to attend

9th AGILE International Conference on Geographic Information Science:
Shaping the future of Geographic Information Science in Europe?

20-22 April, 2006
Thermal Hotel Visegr?d
Visegr?d, Hungary

The conference is the premier European forum for the exchange of ideas
and research results among researchers, practitioners, consultants, and
users of geographic information. Papers, demonstrations and posters at
the conference will address topics on conceptual frameworks, research in
progress, best practice reports, case studies, and executive viewpoints.

The conference keynote speakers are

*
Herv? Jeanjean from the Direction de la Strat?gie et des
Programmes of the Centre National d??tude Spatiales (CNES) who will
address the Civilian applications of space, the European GMES programme
and the French experience, and

*
Mike Jackson, Chair of Geospatial Science at the University of
Nottingham, who will address the Geospatial interoperability and the
changing relationship between the user, vendor and research GI
communities, which will lead off to a special plenary session on
Industry-Research relations in the GI field.

The conference will be the central event for two workshops on Teaching
OpenGIS and Monitoring and Reporting Spatial Data Infrastructures.
Application to the work of the INSPIRE Drafting Teams.

The conference will be held in a thermal hotel situated in one of the
most beautiful parts of Hungary in the picturesque surroundings of the
Dunakanyar (Danube Bend), near Visegr?d, right next door to the famous
Lepence Thermal Bath. The town, located 45 km north of Budapest, was
once a royal stronghold, but is now a resort with spectacular views over
the Danube. The ruins of Visegr?d Castle, a mountaintop citadel which
dates from the 13th century, the reconstructed Royal Palace, the Water
Tower and Salamon Tower are some of the most important attractions.

Registration details, and details of travel, accommodation, and program
are to be found on the AGILE Website: http://www.agile-online.org/

I look forward to meeting you in Visegr?d,

Monica Wachowicz

Scientific Secretary, AGILE Council
