Subject: Re: [gislist] ArcCatalog question...
Date:  03/13/2006 10:30:01 PM
From:  George

Hello Pedro:

It's best to do any joining of table in ArcMap. There is a join tool in the ArcCatalog toolbox, but - like some others - has some quirk and doesn't work.

If you have three or more tables to join to an existing attribute table, may I suggest using MS Access. Creat a new Access database, move the tables into the database (Import or Open), and use the Create query in Design view to set up the table links, and write the output to a new table (including any fields you want to keep from the tables). This new table can then be linked to your attribute table through the join item, by right-clicking on the shapefile layer and creating a Join in ArcMap.

I have found that this method is the easiest way to join multiple tables. Others in this group will probably have other just as valid methods methods.

Cheers,
George.
