You can use the Xtools extension to do that as well as area and perimeter.

Good day everyone,
When creating a shapefile or layer of a line (e.g. Pipeline)...............is there a way to associate the distance of the line without manually dragging a line over the existing line, measuring the ~ distance and then entering it into the attribute table.......to sum it up I would like to be able to click on a line that I produce from a group of points and have the length of the line available in the attribute table of the line layer or shapefile.
Thanks in advance for all your time and help.
Respectfully
Logan Parker
