Subject: Re: [gislist] Arc view 9.1 problem

What I have done in similar situations is

1. Add a field "Area" to the layer/shape file that shows rice production.
That field should be double precision, 16 characters, 2 decimal
places
2. RIGHT-click at the top of the colum and select "calculate values"
In the calculate box that appears, check the "Advanced" box and then
Open the HELP menu and scroll down to the part that says "compute
area"
Copy the 4 lines of VBA code into the pre-logic script box for the
advanced field
Type "Output" in the Area= conclusion box
tell it to go.
3. That will compute the surface area of each polygon in the shape file.

This trick is spelled out cleanly (probably better than I can do it) in the
book "Getting to Know ArcGIS, 2nd Edition" for Rel. 9.1

Regarding the legend, you can double-click the legend, open the properties
table for the legend, and then add/remove shape files and layers from the
legend from there.

If you need more specifics, please feel free to write me back.

Subject: [gislist] Arc view 9.1 problem

Hello there

Could anyone please tell me how to find the areas under different classes
of a classified layer. like:
we made map of rice yield and we made five classes of this map i.e.
rice yield 5 - 10 kg/ha
rice yield 10 - 12kg/ha
rice yield 12 - 15 kg/ha
rice yield 15 - 20 kg/ha
rice yield 15 - 20 kg/ha.

Now i want to know how much percentage of the map (i. e. area) is falling
in each category. Could you please also tell me how to remove layer name
from legend.

Kind regards
Bhupinder Singh
