Subject: [gislist] Topo Maps of Minnesota's BWCAW
Date:  05/27/2006 06:15:02 PM
From:  David Berg

I've been searching around the net at USGS's website for the past few
days looking for the data from quads of the BWCA of northern
Minnesota. I have not yet found what I'm looking for. Perhaps that's
because I only half know what I'm doing. I'm hoping that some kind
soul reading this list can help me out.

Basically, I just want to put together a product similar to Delorme's
Topo USA only with free (as in speech) map data. That doesn't seem
doable at the moment so I'll settle for just being able to get shapes
for the lakes and elevation information into a program like qgis or
grass and go from there. The problem is I cannot find the data, or
maybe I have but don't know it.

I'd really appreciate a tip. I don't want to settle for copyrighted
maps and a non-open software package that I have to install windows to
run.

Thanks much.
