Selvan, I have never used Map to export to MapInfo formats but do regularly export drawing files to Shapefiles and coverages. Some things to remember that might be helpful. First, in order to export a projection with a shapefile or coverage you must assign the projection to the dwg file using the Map tool to assign a global coordinate system. If you have done this you will get a prj file along with your shapefile. The prj file contains the projection information. Second, a dwg file can contain multiple entity types (points, lines, polygons, and annotation). A shapefile can only contain a single entity type so make sure you are selecting the correct type of shapefile when you export as well as selecting the correct layers that match that type in the dwg. Also remember there is no such thing as an annotation shapefile. Shapefiles do not store text. Third, Shapefiles use dBase to store attribute information. This format has limits. Try keeping field names and values as simple as possible. Not only will it help performance but reduce the chance of problems. Lastly, Map has two different import/export engines embedded in it. The main one is based on Safe Software's FME engine which has become the default industry standard. ESRI also uses it for the Data Interoperability extension. For whatever reason this engine seems to have problems from time to time. The other engine is the old import/export engine that Map first employed. The code is still in the software. It can be access by using the mapimport4 and mapexport4 commands on the command line. This old engine will sometimes work when the primary one will not.
I hope this helps.

Hi Folks..
One more interesting Question to discuss on this intelligent list.
I am basically a MapInfo user, when i create polygons with a lenghty codes as the attributes.During the migration process using Autocad map (the latest version to mention).I use map export along the attributes and other stuff into Esri shape.
When i tend to translate the ESRI shape to MapInfo TAB file..I get only the attribute data in my table..i can see any graphics at all..i am following all the process such as assigning projection & other stuffs.
I also think it could be due to lenghty code attribute (Character About 254).As anyone come across such problem. It works perfect for 90% of the cases i do..i am really unsure what could be the reason for this back logg?
Can anyone suggest me any free download convertor that can convert ESRI shapes file to MapInfo TAB file, where in i get both graphics and attributes.
Advance thanks for all Gigantic GIS experts who are going to remove me out of this problem
Thanks & Regds
