Hi Bill,
With the hopes this doesn't turn into another "session", I'd like to point out that the reason I use this list, as I suspect do many others, is that you almost ALWAYS get an answer here, whereas the various ESRI lists are more often than not unresponsive to the "elementary" queries. For a couple of years I would send to this and a couple of ESRI related lists and rarely ever got a response from the others. I don't even try on the ESRI related lists any more.
This is a phenomenal resource of helpful, experienced GIS users who don't mind helping out the newbies and I applaud them for their generosity. I know I offer help whenever I can, though my expertise is not as great as many who lurk here.
Cheers, Rick

IMHO, that might be appropriate but it was never an optimal use of the community of subscribers to this list. There have always existed better
software-specific forums going back way before this particular list was created and, in the past, other cogent and helpful contributors have made the case that software-specific questions should be directed elsewhere. (You get better answers faster and don't disturb those who could care less about your particular platform.) Many people seem unaware of that, though. As a result, this list probably gets a lot less attention than it otherwise could, especially from non-ESRI users who have to filter out the ESRI fluff and from experienced ESRI users who likely would prefer not to field the (usually) elementary FAQs that appear here. In any unmoderated list, you make of it what you will...
Cheers, Bill Huber
