X11 is a windowing API used on UNIX. OS/X is "unix" at the core, but has its down windowing system. However, since it is unix at the core, it can also support X11, if you download it, from the place above. This will allow you to run a number of aesthetically displeasing but potentially useful unix tools, including GRASS.
