Hi all,
I'm trying to build a 1:5.000.000 series of maps with global or near-global coverage with the following layers: -elevation -hydrography -political borders -place names -transportation (roads)
The maps don't need to be very accurate, so I'll use Vmap0 for place names and political borders and I generated the elevation (hillshade) from SRTM30 data. For rivers I'm looking for line features with a non null name attribute (so I can easily merge the rivers into one piece, to be able to display them differently, depending on the map) and a hierarchy. Vmap would be OK, but I found no way to automatically reduce the number of features (from ~200.000 to ~10.000) and the same river is made from several segments, some named, some unknown.
Anyone knows another source of hydrography data? With less features but "consolidated".
Thank you!
