Subject: Re: [gislist] Add filename field - SOLVED
Date:  08/16/2006 10:35:00 AM
From:  Cristy Brown

I was able to gain assistance and solve my previous post (see below).

For those also interested in the solution:

Thanks to Rocky for his Python script:
http://arcscripts.esri.com/details.asp?dbid=14534.

Thanks to Dave for assisting in teaching me how to use it:
>>This will add filenames to each file. I've run this on folders with
50-75 >>shapefiles and it works great. What I did was copied the script
to the >>folder with the shapefiles, placed the script in my personal
toolbox that >>I use and ran it from there.

I appreciate the help!

Cristy

Subject: [gislist] Add filename field

I am merging about 100 shapefiles and want to have a column in the final
product that maintains the name of the original shapefile.

How do I do this without actually typing in the name pre-merge?

I would need step by step explanation if I need to use code.

I am running ArcView 9.1 with no extensions.

Thanks in advance.
