Subject: [gislist] Accuracy Assessment of Dun & Bradstreet Business Data
Date:  09/20/2006 02:55:00 PM
From:  James W. Quinn

All:

We have recently purchased 2001 and 2005 Dun & Bradstreet business data
for NYC. This data represents the location of individual businesses
that has been geocoded to the street address of each business of
interest. I've heard mixed opinions on the accuracy of the data in
representing the correct spatial location of a business, the
completeness of representing all businesses that really exist, and the
temporal accuracy of the data to remove those businesses from
year-to-year that may no longer be in business. I would like to conduct
an accuracy assessment of a subset of our data by re-geocoding and
comparing results, but also by looking at phone book records of the
businesses within my subset to compare completeness in representation
and over representation where businesses may no longer exist. My main
goal in doing this is to get some measure of error in the data which I
can report with other research findings.

So I would like to hear from anyone out there who has done anything
similar, and what was your process. Also, I would appreciated any
suggestions as to sources of archived phone book records in a digital
format that could be queried and joined/related to other tables.

Thank you for your replies.

Cheers,
James
