Dear Frank

Your first question about the cost comparison also came up at the User
Meeting where I presented this slide. The answer to that is yes and no!.
The context of this cost comparison is that it was taken from a
technical requirements study I did for the specific project. As such,
the comparison of costs here was done on the basis of a common set of
technical requirements, which each of these solutions fulfilled (the
main requirements were basic GIS functionality, and a IMS server). Of
course, if you have differing requirements, than some of these solutions
might not be appropriate and thus pricings might change.
Manifold has the great advantage that almost all its versions come with
their complete IMS server bundled, without any catches or limitations.
This is the greatest cost saving feature, along with a support function
on a per use basis, versus maintenance contracts, and considerably
cheaper license prices.

There sadly is no demo version, but Manifold do offer a 30 day money
back guarantee, so you could order it and return after 30 days if not
happy. Also have a look at the other links in the Manipedia, there are a
load of videos that give you an overview of the software and have a read
through the online user manual.

A lot of people often make the mistake to equate price with number of
features/"how capable" a GIS is. You will see if you look at the online
manual of Manifold that the list of features it supports is impressive
and up to par with most other solutions.
Also, have a look through the User Forum at forum.manifold.net for
answers to your questions.

I am not working for Manifold or have any affiliation with the company,
I am just a happy user that wants to raise awarness of the software as
alternatives to the more established ArcGIS, MapInfo, AutoCad and others.

What functionality do you specifically need, maybe I can give you a more
informed opinion then on the suitability.
