Subject: Re: [gislist] Sequential Numbering System

From:  Landon Blake

Lance,

I can't help you with specifics to ESRI hacking, although some others on
the list might be able to. Here is the basic programming logic that
could be implemented in most GIS programs:

[1] Draw your linear feature in the pattern you want the sequential
numbering to follow, ensuring that each node or angle point in the
linear feature lies on a boundary of one of the polygons.
[2] Give your polygon label counter an initial value. (For example:
"100")
[3] Determine an increment interval for your polygon label counter.
[2] Get the midpoint for the first segment in the linear feature.
Determine which polygon the midpoint falls in. Create your first polygon
label and associate it with the selected polygon.
[3] Get the midpoint for the second segment in the linear feature.
Determine which polygon the midpoint falls in. Increment your parcel
label counter. Create the second polygon label and associate it with the
selected polygon.
[4] Repeat until there are no more segments in the linear feature.

Hope that helps some.

Landon,

I actually created the list I needed but would appreciate a few
ArcObjects
scripting tips as it's possible that I may need to regenerate the
numbers
again.

Lance,

I don't use ESRI's stuff very much, so I won't be much help here. Are
you looking for a "out-of-the-box" solution, or are you willing to
implement this with some programming?

I'm no expert on ArcObjects, but I can help you with the programming
logic if you want/.

Lance,

What software package are you using?

Subject: [gislist] Sequential Numbering System

Hi Listers,

I have a set of 366 parcels and need to incorporate a sequential
numbering
system into a database, which should be 1000565-1000930. I've created a
line
file (Feature Class) that intersects each of the parcels. Any idea how
to
dynamically create these numbers in an east to west direction? The
query/solution must be geographical as the numbering sequence must
follow
the Feature Class line file.

Thanks,

Lance Hutchinson
