Subject: Re: [gislist] Field Data Capture With GPS Devices

What you want to do should work with out any problem. Trimble's
TerraSync software should run on a Tablet or ruggedized PC. You will
need to be able to receive a correction signal from either the Coast
Guard Beacons or OmniStar in order to get real time submeter accuracy.
WAAS will not normally produce reliable submeter results. However I
understand a new WAAS satellite is about or just has come online that
will greatly improve WAAS's performance.

You might also want to look at the Ranger handheld controller. We use it
with our Trimble XRS Pro with great results. It has a screen that is a
little bigger than the GEOXT plus it has a separate keyboard.

Subject: [gislist] Field Data Capture With GPS Devices

Hello ,

Does anyone out there have any success with GPS data capture at
sub-meter accuracy using a laptop or tablet pc? What setup are you
using including hardware and software and do you like the results.

I am evaluating a Trimble ProXT connecting to a Panasonic CF-18 using
Bluetooth. I need to make it very simple for our field personnel. Using
integrated devices such as the GeoXT does not work for us because the
screen size and form factor is too small for our crew to see.

Thanks,
